§ 14-291. Annexation.

  • Whenever a parcel of land, a subdivision, or any part thereof, becomes part of the incorporated area of the city by annexation or otherwise it shall be the responsibility of the building department to review the building (i.e., address) numbers of such property and determine whether such numbers, their posting, and the method of numbering for such annexed portion conform to the designated grid system and the uniform numbering system established by this article. If the number, posting or method of numbering do not conform with the city's grid system and the uniform numbering system, the building department, or such other city agency or department as the city council may designate, shall give notice of such nonconformance to the owners or occupants of the affected building or property. Nonconformance includes, but is not limited to, a number out of sequence, odd or even numbers on the wrong side of the street, and rural box numbers. The notice shall be delivered by certified mail, return receipt requested, by posting the notice in a conspicuous place on the building, or by hand delivery. The notice shall include a notification of a change of address which shall contain the new building number(s) assigned to the building or property in accordance with the provisions of this article. The notice shall further direct the owner or the occupant to post the newly assigned building number(s) contained in the change of address on the building or property in accordance with section 14-290.
