§ 18-57. Investigation of applicant; reasons for denial.

  • (a)

    Upon receipt of the data set forth in section 18-56, the community development director or his designee shall forthwith direct an inquiry to the sheriff of the county and the chief of police at each city where applicant has resided and done business for five years immediately prior to the date of application for business tax receipt for the purpose of ascertaining the general reputation of such applicant, the criminal record, if any, of the applicant, and the nature of any complaint received by such officers in connection with previous business enterprises.

    (b)

    Upon receipt of answers to the inquiries set forth in subsection (a) hereof, in the event the applicant has any previous criminal record or if the general reputation of said applicant is poor, or if complaints have been registered against him in the conduct of his business, such application shall be denied and said applicant shall not be permitted to engage in the aforesaid business in the city.
