§ 46-3. Use of police shooting range.

  • (a)

    It shall be lawful for police officers and any persons, with the approval of the chief of police or the assistant police chief, to fire or discharge any gun, pistol or any firearm within the city, in the designated location, which will be the police shooting range located at and described as: A parcel of land located in the northeast one-quarter of the northwest one-quarter of section 22, township 16 south, range 33 east, more particularly described as follows: Commence at the southeast corner of Wiltshire Boulevard, as recorded in plat book 33, page 175, public records of Volusia County, Florida; thence south 89 degrees 43 minutes 30 seconds east a distance of 730 feet; thence north 03 degrees 30 minutes 04 seconds west a distance of 200 feet to the point of beginning; thence south 89 degrees 43 minutes 30 seconds east a distance of 382.01 feet; thence north 03 degrees 30 minutes 04 seconds west a distance of 200 feet; thence north 89 degrees 43 minutes 30 seconds west a distance of 382.01 feet; thence south 03 degrees 30 minutes 04 seconds east a distance of 200 feet to the point of beginning.

    (b)

    The specifications for the shooting range will be an embankment high enough so that the projectiles will not be projected outside the area, which is designated for shooting. The height regulation will be ten feet higher than the terrain of the land. The width of the embankment shall be wide enough to contain the projectiles.

    (c)

    Provisions for supervision will be a qualified police officer. If there are more than four persons shooting at one time, a gun range master will be present to ensure safety regulations are followed.
