§ 46-56. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Alarm location means the site of the equipment used to activate the alarm system.

    Alarm system means an assembly and/or interconnection of electrical, electronic or mechanical equipment and devices or a single device designed and intended to alert or signal the presence of a break-in, burglary, robbery or similar criminal activity or intrusion at the alarm location. Fire and smoke alarm systems are specifically excluded from the definition of alarm system as used herein and from the provisions of this article.

    False alarm means the activation of an alarm system by other than an actual or attempted break-in, burglary, robbery or similar criminal activity or intrusion at the alarm location and at a time when no actual or attempted break-in, burglary, robbery or similar criminal activity or intrusion at the alarm location is being committed or attempted on the premises.

    First response means a response to a false alarm to an alarm location at which no other false alarm has occurred within the preceding six-month period.

    Telephone alarm device means an alarm system which, when activated, automatically sends over regular telephone lines, by direct connection or otherwise, a prerecorded voice message or signal indicating the existence of the emergency situation that the alarm system is designed to detect.
