§ 54-78. Membership conditions of eligibility.

(a)

Conditions of eligibility. All firefighters, as employed by the city as of the effective date [of this article] shall be members of this system and all future firefighters shall become members of this system upon their employment with the city. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the fire chief shall have the option to elect to not participate in the system by signing an election within 30 days following employment as the fire chief with the city. The fire chief shall be the only eligible city employee in the fire department who may make the election to not participate in the system as authorized in F.S. § 175.032(8)(a), (2013).

(b)

Designation of beneficiary. Each firefighter shall complete a form prescribed by the board designating a beneficiary or beneficiaries.
