§ 74-37. Costs, charges, installation requirements for fire sprinkler (fire line) systems using city water.

  • (a)

    Costs. All persons who desire to install fire sprinkler systems for fire protection in any building or structure by connecting to the city water system shall pay all of the costs thereof to the owner's property line and, in addition thereto, shall pay the costs of connecting to the city's water distribution lines.

    (b)

    Monthly charges. Charges for all fire sprinkler systems using city water for fire protection shall be established by resolution of the city council. Such charges shall be payable monthly.

    (c)

    Installation. All fire sprinkler systems installed inside or outside the city for fire protection shall be [installed] according to the city specifications, the Florida Building Code and shall be subject to inspection by the city building official and aforesaid building official shall have the right to enter upon any premises where sprinkler systems are installed at any reasonable time for the purpose of inspecting such system. Any corrective action shall be in accordance with the city's cross connection control ordinance and manual. Should a defect appear in such system, the owner or the person having control of the building where the system is located shall correct such defect immediately upon delivery of notice to the owner by the city manager.

    (d)

    Unauthorized connections. It shall be unlawful to connect any fire sprinkler system for fire protection with any other potable water distribution line for use inside or outside the premises without the installation of the proper backflow preventer device and any such unauthorized connection shall be discontinued immediately upon delivery of written notice to the owner by the city manager or his designee.
