§ 74-201. General specifications for installation of reclaimed systems.

  • General specifications for installation of reclaimed water mains and the construction of reclaimed water distribution systems may be found in the latest adopted version of the city's standard construction details.

    (1)

    The proposed reclaimed water main shall have a minimum cover provided of two feet six inches, unless special conditions exist and are approved by the city manager designee. The minimum size of mains installed shall be four inches in diameter. Actual pipe diameter needed shall be based on engineering calculations.

    (2)

    Proposed reclaimed water main construction shall be in accordance with the city standard details as approved by city resolution.

    (3)

    No potable [water] wells shall be permitted within 75 feet of any areas irrigated by reclaimed water. In addition, no potable [water] wells shall be allowed within 75 feet of any reclaimed water lines, valves or pumps.

    (4)

    Reclaimed water may not be used for filling of swimming pools or spas (private or public).

    (5)

    Low-trajectory nozzles are required for any areas irrigated by reclaimed water within 100 feet of public eating, drinking or bathing facilities.

    (6)

    Operating pressure of the reclaimed water system is 50 to 70 psi. A pressure-reducing valve, if required, should be installed at the service connection by the customer to reduce system pressure to that which is compatible with the irrigation system proposed.

    (7)

    All above-ground equipment, including piping, meter boxes, valve boxes and appurtenances, shall be identified by painting all above-ground features purple.
