§ 38-29. Disposition of unredeemed property.

  • (a)

    After the expiration of the period of 90 days specified in section 38-27, unclaimed property seized pursuant to this article shall be disposed of in one of the following ways and at the discretion of the chief of police:

    (1)

    Public auction.

    (2)

    Donation to a charitable organization (nonauctionable item).

    (3)

    Destruction.

    (4)

    Retained by the city (approved by city manager).

    (b)

    If the unclaimed property is to be sold at public auction, the city clerk shall publish in a newspaper of general circulation in the city notice of sale containing a description of such property, and shall give notice that if such property be not claimed by the rightful owner thereof within 15 days from date of publication, such property shall be sold at public auction at a place and time specified in such notice.
